AP Chemistry is an introductory college-level chemistry course. Students cultivate their understanding of chemistry through inquiry-based investigations as they explore topics like atomic and molecular structure, chemical reactions, kinetics, equilibrium, and thermodynamics.

This course will briefly touch upon topics covered in grade 11 chemistry SCH3U and grade 12 chemistry SCH4U courses and fill in any gaps between the Ontario curriculum and AP expectations. This course alone is not a substitute for taking the aforementioned classes or the full AP course. There are interested students who have independently studied Chemistry and they feel they are ready to take on the challenge.

This course will be using the flipped classroom approach, as such videos and assignments will be assigned to be completed outside of the class sessions. During meeting times, we will focus on a question and answer format to best utilize the brief period of time collectively together. We will be meeting via Zoom.

The content, assignments, and assessments will be based upon the AP Course and Exam Description (CED) available in the AP Classroom website or here.

For this course we will be using Chemistry 2e 2nd Edition published by Openstax available here.
