AP English Language and Composition Virtual-Live Course (2026-27)
Class Date: Wednesday October 7, 2026 - April 28, 2027
Class Time: 5:45 PM - 8:00 PM on Wednesdays
No class on Winter Break (Dec 23 & Dec 30), March Break (Mar 17)
Minimum Recommended Pre(or Co)-Requisite: Strong Comprehension in English (9 or 10 minimum)
In AP English Language and Composition, students engage deeply with a wide range of nonfiction texts, examining them through the lens of a writer. The course focuses on understanding how authors and speakers make deliberate rhetorical choices—such as tone, structure, evidence, and style—to effectively communicate and persuade their intended audience. Through close reading and critical analysis, students learn to identify and evaluate these strategies in essays, speeches, articles, and other forms of argumentation.
As the course progresses, students develop their own writing by applying these techniques to craft clear, coherent, and persuasive pieces. Emphasis is placed on argumentation, synthesis of multiple sources, and the ability to adapt writing for different purposes and audiences. Students will also strengthen their skills in research, revision, and timed writing in preparation for the AP exam.
We recognize that some students may have independently studied English or developed strong writing skills outside of a formal classroom setting and may feel prepared to take on the challenge of this course. While we welcome such initiative, it is important to note that AP English Language and Composition is a rigorous, university-level course that demands consistent reading, writing, and critical thinking. The responsibility for determining whether this course is the right fit ultimately rests with the student, and we encourage careful self-assessment before enrolling.
The content, assignments, and assessments will be based upon the AP Course and Exam Description (CED) available in the AP Classroom website or here.
